I am one lucky fellow working in one of the coolest industries.
My colleagues are some of the brightest minds I have ever met. The IQ per square meter in our industry is bigger than in any other place. But who are actually these brilliant minds? And I am not asking about perceptions, but facts. We all use smartphones, and we look for the „thinnest”, „biggest”, „best” or „fastest” devices. But what would all these great features mean if you don’t have the network to make the device useful? Those brilliant minds are the ones that put intelligence on GSM antennas and satellites to actually make communication possible.
If we know anything about how the Moon or Mars look like and what black wholes are all about, it’s because brains such as Eneans (Enea engineers) are making it possible. Enea engineers in Iasi have developed a lossless image compression algorithm that will be implemented on a new multi-core space hardware setup on satellites. They are highly skilled engineers in parallel programming and data processing algorithm implementation on a parallel programming framework and AMP operating system. They make space exploration possible.
I board on a plane at least twice per month and there are millions of people like me, all around the world. Flying safely is common sense. But how many of us are aware about what makes an airplane not crash, properly communicate with the control tower and not miss a landing or activate the autopilot in case of emergency? Again, we are talking about the same software masterminds building huge architectures for making the airplane an intelligent flight machine.
Behind transportation, telecom, medical solutions and services that we take for granted there are huge and complex infrastructures, hardware and software, built by highly specialized, software geeks in 5 or maybe 10 years. These projects we are not always aware of are built by Eneans, by these invisible heroes that make things happen behind the scene. These people are my colleagues in Bucharest, Iasi and Craiova, doing an excellent job in software research and development.
Thank you all,
Bogdan Putinica – Senior Vice President of Enea
